2nd of June 2022

Further to our advisory issued on the 3rd of May 2022 and the subsequent implementation of a fuel surcharge, this advisory is issued to update customers as well as our trade and resort partners on further changes to take effect for travel as of Monday, the 6th of June 2022.

In the past 48 hours, the price of diesel fuel in Fiji has increased by another 6% and is now at record levels some 63% ahead of prices as of June 2021 when our current rates were set and released to the market.

With the price of fuel at record levels, and expected to remain so for the immediate future, South Sea Cruises has made the decision to further increase our fuel surcharge which was implemented on the 1st of May 2022.

Customers travelling aboard the following South Sea Cruises services and products will be subject to the following fuel surcharges from Monday, 6th of June 2022 either at our Port Denarau check-in counter or upon boarding one of our vessels if a customer is only travelling on an inbound sector with us.

The fuel surcharges apply as of Monday the 6th of June 2022 and are as follows:

  • Day Cruise/Trip customers travelling with us on any Yasawa Islands products - $25 per adult / $15 child.
  • Day Cruise/Trip customers travelling to Castaway Island, Malolo Island, Beachcomber Island, Mana Island and aboard the Mamanuca Explorer, or Combo Cruises - $20 per adult / $10 per child (5-15 years)

Customers travelling with us to Malamala Beach Club, and to South Sea Island on the Full Day, Half Day or Finding Nemo products are currently exempt from paying the fuel surcharge due to the shorter travel distances.

Our South Sea Sailing and South Sea Snorkelling products are also exempt from the fuel surcharge as their reliance on fuel to operate is minimal.

Customers travelling with us from Port Denarau will be asked to pay their applicable fuel surcharge for all future sectors booked whilst at check-in.
Customers can choose to either pay the fuel surcharge via cash, international debit or credit card  (noting that international cards do attract a 3% bank fee).

In implementing the amended fuel surcharge, we’d like to thank our trade and resort partners, along with our customers for their understanding of our need to recover a percentage of these increased fuel costs.  We also ask that our Terms & Conditions are noted as follows “South Sea Cruises reserves the right to alter prices, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, arrange alternative transport, and vary itineraries and services if necessary.”

Lastly, South Sea Cruises are committed to reviewing the fuel surcharge monthly, and we will only continue to implement the fuel surcharge as the price of fuel in Fiji justifies us in doing so. For those that aren’t aware, the price of fuel in Fiji is set by the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission on the 1st day of each month and is based on a range of factors including the price of oil globally.
